Streatham Youth and Community Trust has appointed an Interim CEO to guide the charity through the coming months and offer leadership as it faces some difficult times. Simon Dowe joined SYCT towards the end of last month and is an experienced Interim CEO, having worked at the helm of several community-based charities in recent years.
Appointing a permanent CEO can be a lengthy process, so the Board of Trustees felt having an experienced interim in post to guide the charity and address some key short-term priorities would be helpful.
Simon will be focusing on creating a short-term strategy, with the aim of reviewing services, tackling the charity’s finances, and ensuring it can continue to keep its doors open for those who need it the most. He also hopes to re-build the charity’s reputation locally and foster a supportive relationship with the local community.
Simon Dowe, Interim CEO at SYCT said “Times are tough for a lot of small charities currently, and ours is no exception. I realise that SYCT has been through some very turbulent times recently and we’re sorry that’s had such an impact on the children and families that we’re here for.
“I know that the nursery closure hit hard, and that community support in some areas has dwindled. However, I want to do all I can to try and get things back on track so we’re providing what our community wants and needs. I’ll be getting out and about to meet people and gather their views. I know there was also a community engagement event held by my predecessor, and we have some feedback to review and act on. Once I’ve settled in and got to grips with everything, responding to that will be one of my priorities.
I intend to be transparent in this role and hope we’ll be able to earn people’s understanding and support going forward. SYCT needs community support right now, more than ever, as we work to secure it for future generations. We all want the charity to thrive so local children, young people and the community are provided with fantastic opportunities to have fun, connect and excel.”
